Overview
The “Women in RecSys” tradition started in 2014 to foster diversity in the RecSys community. This year, we once again offer several ways for the community to unite and celebrate female role models in RecSys through networking events.
To highlight the research contributions of women in the RecSys community, we will award the “Women in RecSys Journal Paper of the Year Awards” to women-authored journal papers that have distinguished themselves due to their innovativeness and scientific rigor. This award will come with a free RecSys registration and the opportunity to present the respective journal paper at the main conference.
Stay tuned for more!
This year’s events are co-hosted by Karlijn Dinnissen (Utrecht University, Netherlands), Elena Epure (Idiap Research Institute, Switzerland and Deezer, France), Sole Pera (TU Delft, Netherlands), and Tao Ye (Lyft, Inc., USA).
More details about each event can be found in the corresponding tabs.
Journal Paper of the Year Awards
This award will be given at the RecSys 2026 conference to women-authored journal papers that have distinguished themselves due to their innovativeness and scientific rigor in the RecSys domain.
The committee will select the top winning journal papers depending on the number of nominated papers. The winning papers will each receive one free registration to RecSys 2026 to present their work during the conference and be acknowledged on the RecSys 2026 website.
Two submission categories are available: Lead Author and Supervising Author. The Lead Author category recognizes papers in which a woman is the lead author (i.e., primary contributor). The Supervising Author category is intended for papers in which a woman serves as the supervising author. Eligibility is determined by the nominated author’s role (lead or supervising), irrespective of their career stage or position in the author list.
An invited committee consisting of prominent researchers representing different areas of expertise will be established to judge the merits of nominated papers and make recommendations to the Women in RecSys committee.
Prize: The free registration prize will be awarded to a winning paper’s nominated author. The presenting author of a winning paper is expected to attend the conference, present their work in-person, and address audience questions during the Q&A session. We are not able to accept proxy presentations. If several women are nominated on the same paper, both will be recognized as winners, but only one free registration will be granted.
Qualification/nomination details: The nominated journal paper must have a RecSys focus and must have been published between 30 April 2025 and 30 April 2026 (online pre-publication is acceptable). Papers are eligible if a researcher who identifies as a woman served as either lead or supervising author. Each person can nominate only one paper. Self-nominations are allowed. If both the lead and supervising author identify as a woman, only one of them can receive the free registration prize.
Submission details: The paper details and a PDF file of the article should be submitted by 30 April 2026 via EasyChair.
