2nd ACM Conference on Recommender Systems
Lousanne, Switzerland, 23rd-25th October 2008
The 2nd ACM International Conference on Recommender Systems has been built on the success of “Recommenders 06 Summer School” in Bilbao, Spain; and the 1st International Conference in Minneapolis, USA. In these events many members of the practitioner and research communities valued the rich exchange of ideas made possible by the shared plenary sessions. The 2nd International conference promoted the same close interaction among practitioners and researchers, reaching a wider range of participants including those from Europe and Asia. Published papers went through a full peer review process. The conference proceedings, which are available both as bound volume and via the ACM Digital Library, are widely read and cited.
In addition to a regular technical program, there were 2-3 tutorials covering the state-of-the-art of this domain, a doctoral consortium, and an industrial program comprising of panel discussions and a practice/industry-paper track. We also had one keynote speaker who addressed the major applications of recommendation technologies in industry.
The call for papers attracted 121 submissions, a more than 100% increase compared to 2007, with authors from nearly 30 different countries. After a detailed scientific review process the program committee selected 38 papers for publication in the proceedings and presentation at the conference, a 31% acceptance rate. Of these 38 papers, 20 full-length papers were accepted for oral presentation and 18 papers for poster presentation, of which 15 were full-length papers and 3 were short-papers.
