The Best Long Paper award went to:

Mohsen Jamali and Martin Ester

from Simon Fraser University
for their paper entitled “A Matrix Factorization Technique with Trust Propagation for Recommendation in Social Networks”

The Short Paper award committee had such a hard time deciding on one that we ended up giving two Best Short Paper Awards. This award takes into account both the sort written paper as the presentation during the poster session. The winners were:

Elizabeth M. Daly, Werner Geyer, David R. Millen

from IBM T.J. Watson Research
for their short paper entitled “The Network Effects of Recommending Social Connections”

and

Guangyu Wu, Derek Greene, Pádraig Cunningham

from University College Dublin
for their short paper entitled “Merging Multiple Criteria to Identify Suspicious Reviews”

This is not a common situation and it is hard to predict whether the strike will end up happening and if it does what will be its real impact. CALL FOR PROPOSALS
===================================================

RecSys'10 is pleased to invite proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the conference. The goal of the workshops is to provide additional venues for presenting research on topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges.

We encourage proposals for a wide range of workshops, including:

* One day mini-conferences on specialized topics; such workshops may have their own paper submission and review processes.
* Working group meetings organized around a specific problem; such workshops may wish to ask participants to submit a short white paper or position statement.

All workshops will be held on September 26 and September 30 at the conference venue. We welcome proposals for half-day and full-day workshops.

We encourage you to contact us in advance (recsys2010-workshops@ls13.cs.uni-dortmund.de) with workshop ideas; we will try to work with prospective workshops, including working to connect groups proposing similar workshop topics. We actively encourage both researchers and industry practitioners to submit workshop proposals.

PROPOSAL FORMAT

The workshop proposal should be a PDF document no more than 4 pages long, submitted by e-mail to recsys2010-workshops@ls13.cs.uni-dortmund.de and organized as follows:

1. Workshop Title
2. Name, email address, affiliation for workshop chair(s)
3. Requested duration (1/2 day or full day), and desired size (minimum and/or maximum number of participants)
4. Short description of workshop for use in advertising workshop to prospective participants. This description should include the topic, description of format, and details about what type of submission is requested from prospective attendees. It should not include the title, organizers, or fee structure (all of which will be inserted by the conference).
5. Description of workshop activities -- outline how the workshop will be organized and how the time will be spent. If the workshop is selective, also outline the process of selecting participants.
6. Description of plans for promoting the workshop (aside from the conference website and announcements, how will you let people know about this workshop).
7. Plans (if any) for disseminating the results of the workshop.
8. History of prior workshops on this topic (if any).
