Video Instructions

Because ACM RecSys is a hybrid conference and has a virtual component, we need a backup video of every talk that we can play in case of a connection issue. This goes for speakers presenting live at the venue (from where the talks will be streamed to the virtual audience) as well as for remote speakers (who will be streaming themselves both to the venue and to the virtual audience).

In order to simplify the process (and avoid asking people for multiple videos in advance of the conference) we will use the video that ACM requests for you to make for the Digital Library as the backup video.

The instructions for the video are as follows:

  • Video durations should not exceed the following limits:
    • Main Conference papers: 10 minutes in length
    • Reproducibility papers: 10 minutes in length
    • Demo papers: 10 minutes in length
    • Industry Talks: 10 minutes in length
    • Industry Posters: 2 minutes in length
    • Late-breaking results: 2 minutes in length
    • Doctoral symposium: 2 minutes in length

Please be very careful to ensure that your video does not exceed the above mentioned limits, since this is the allotted time for your talk at the conference.

  • You will need your DOI as assigned to you during the ACM rights review process to upload this video (for example: 10.1145/XXXXXX.XXXXXX). Do not use the “https://doi.org” part. Check the confirmation email from ACM rights review or the DOI numbers at the bottom of the ACM copyright block on the first page of your pdf submission.

  • You are expected to provide a very short description of your presentation video (limited to one video at this time). This is limited to 1,024 characters (which includes spaces). If your description exceeds this character count, it will be ignored and “Presentation Video” used by ACM for the Digital Library. Please be aware that as per ACM Digital Recordings Requirements policy, all content captured is owned by ACM and may not be distributed by other means, unless express permission is given by ACM.
  • The preferred resolution is 1080p/HD if possible but 720P is also acceptable.
  • The video format is .mp4 or .m4v format, optimized for streaming; the Video Codec is H.264 and the Audio Codec is AAC+ or AAC. MPEG4 PART 10 or AVC. See the requirements page for more information.
We recommend using Zoom for the video recording. Instructions on how to record a presentation with Zoom can be found here.
  • Audio and video tracks are in sync at all times.
  • It is preferred to include it as a picture-in-picture video window of the presenter throughout the video.
  • Upload the one (1) video, your assigned DOI, and short description to the video submission site on or before September 13th. The deadline refers to 23:59 (11:59 pm) in the AoE (Anywhere on Earth) time zone. The link to the submission site will be sent to the corresponding author by email.
