Recommender Systems 2010 Student Volunteer Program

We’re happy to announce a Student Volunteer Program at this year’s Recommender Systems conference. Volunteers will receive free registration to the conference (entitling them to attend all tutorials, workshops and main conference sessions) and all the benefits of any other student conference registration.

Volunteers are expected to assist the organizers and staff with a range of tasks during the conference including: putting together the conference material, handling conference registration, serving as a session aid and making sure the technical sessions run smoothly, checking delegate badges, running errands, etc. These tasks will typically comprise of a couple of hours per day of the conference (including tutorial and workshops days). This means that the rest of the time volunteers are free to attend the conference.

There are a limited number of volunteer positions available. To be eligible you must be enrolled as a full time student at a recognized university at the time of the conference. Graduate students will be given preference, but undergraduate students will also be considered and we will select volunteers on a merit basis.

Students interested in volunteering should send a PDF with the following information to registration2010@recsys.acm.org.

1. Last Name, First Name.
2. Email address.
3. University/college where you are a student.
4. Advisor’s name (or the name of someone who can confirm you are a student).
5. Advisor’s email address.
6. Advisor’s phone number.
7. If you have a paper, poster, demonstration, or doctoral consortium presentation in the

conference, indicate which and the title.

8. 1-page statement (no more than 500 words) about why you wish to attend Recommender Systems 2010 and why attending is important to your research / career path.
9. A short bio including details on your education, any awards you may have as well as a list of publications.

Applications must be received by Friday 16th of July 2010 for consideration and notification of results will be sent by Monday 26th of July so that even if you are not chosen as a student volunteer for Recommender Systems 2010 you will still be in time for early registration for the main conference.
